The Hassani 'Empire'

The Hassani Empire was a Human empire that is believed to have dominated the entire continent in its day. The Empire is known to have been strongly pro-Human.

How exactly they came to fall is not known. What is known is that when the Empire fell, it left behind its military and infrastructure. Whilst towns could not always support themselves, the villages survived and for the most part welcome Kingdom rule as a return to safer days.

Meanwhile, the Legions became the private armies of their leaders, each a warlord leading his men to attain the lifestyle of their choice, something which varied greatly from legion to legion as they were specialised units. A Hassani Company is well organised and its members are highly trained. Most companies will kill each other on sight, but occasionally alliances are made. None of them can remember why the civil war broke out and they still fight because that’s all they know.

In the early years, Hassani tribes regularly attacked the fledgling Kingdom, but as the Defenders became more organised, such attacks have become less frequent. Wanderers outside the Kingdom should still be wary, however.

Player characters from the Hassani do exist but are rare; they are normally former Hassani trying to get to grips with being a member of the Kingdom (i.e. coping with non-humans and no longer being part of a military society).

Hassani Companies encountered so far include:

The Hassani Foxes

A Hassani scouting company treated as if they belonged to a guild equivalent to the Pathfinders.

The Hassani Eagles

A Hassani defensive heavy infantry company, strongly dedicated to the principles of Justice, the Eagles are long standing allies of the Kingdom. They have their own established realm to the east of the borders of the Barony Van Heusen which is centred around a large mountain city, a powerful defensive point.

Eagle citizens are easily recognised by their upper class British accents and are all treated as if they belonged to a guild equivalent to the Guards

The Hassani Jackals

A Hassani light scout company, dedicated due to their role to the principles of Chaos. The Jackals are long standing antagonists of the Kingdom who regularly raid up and down the Kingdom borders.

Jackal citizens are easily recognised by their strong West Country accents. Their patrols usually consist of lightly armoured scouts, particularly dangerous when supported by a Chaos priest.

The Hassani Rhinos

A Hassani heavy infantry shock company, strongly dedicated to the principles of Order. The Rhinos live as mercenaries for hire and have worked for and against the Kingdom in the past. Patrols of Rhino troops have not been encountered, however the individuals that have been met have single-handedly turned the fights in the favour of their side time and again – in particular the man only referred to as Him.

The Hassani Scorpions

Small company of stealth-based scouts encountered in the Johen Barony. Opposed to the Hassani Scarabs and according to the recently resurrected, easily recognised by their all-black garb.

The Hassani Scarabs

A company of Druidic sun worshippers, easily recognised by their white turbans.

The Hassani Kites

A light skirmishing company that follows the principle of Death in the form of protecting the dead from those that might abuse them.

The Hassani Weasels

A mixed unit who were originally used by the Empire as a self-contained strike force for small, semi-covert operations, but who today have become an amoral mercenary unit whose only loyalty is to the person paying them – so long as they keep paying. They have been employed for legitimate purposes by various nobles and landowners within the Kingdom, though there have also been reports of Hassani Weasels being in the employ of less savoury elements in the past.

Motto: “Facta sordida, pro iusta lucre facta” (“Dirty deeds, done for appropriate recompense.”)

They can be recognised by their New Yorker drawls and casual violence to each other as well as bystanders.
