Background:
The Talion Charter was officially ratified by royal seal in the late summer of 126. The Charter authorised two dozen independent naval Captains to take and hold the Sharde Isles, a cluster of islands off the Kingdom’s coast if they can do so with their own power. Any landslide operations carried out by the patrol will remain under the purview of the Defenders rather than the signatories of the Talion Charter.
The Charter further grants these independent Captains reduced taxes owing to their status as Marcher Lords, being the first line of defence against the Nykrull Empire if war should erupt.
One concession the Kingdom made was to supply a freshly raised batch of Kingdom Patrolees and assorted training staff to the Charter’s Captains for one year, beginning just before the first Landing operation.
The recruiters make a note that while knowing how to swim is preferable, lessons will be held before departure to ensure no accidental drownings occur.
OOC Logistics:
Swimming – All characters will gain the Swimming proficiency skill for this campaign for free. This will be enough to avoid drowning in most situations.
A Downtime system is planned for this campaign with details released closer to the time. Likely there will be an early, mid and end of Campaign downtime for each player to participate in or not.
Swimming Mechanics for The Talion Charter Campaign:
In this Campaign there is a change characters may end up in the water and possibly even water based combat. As such the following mechanics are in place for movement and fighting in the water.
No Swimming Skill – It takes all a character’s concentration to stay afloat and so cannot move or use any skills in the water.
Swimming Proficiency – Whilst in the water, a character with Swimming Proficiency may move at a slow walk and use any skills they have at Proficiency to simulate the difficulty of staying afloat whilst trying to do anything else.
Swimming Expertise – Whilst in the water, a character with Swimming Expertise may move at a normal walk and use any skills they have at Specialisation level to simulate the difficulty of swimming and trying to use their other skills.
Swimming Mastery – Whilst in the water, a character with Swimming Mastery may move at a fast walk and use any skills they have at Expertise to simulate the difficulty of swimming and trying to use their other skills.
What type of character can I play:
Any of the player races and legal Kingdom and Out-Kingdom guilds. Characters ‘serving their time’ are also welcome for this Campaign.
Characters from previous campaigns are also welcome, if you know you intend to join with a higher ranked character, please let the GM’s know so we can arrange cameo’s.
What information do you need to provide:
The Gm’s will need an email detailing your character’s Name, Species, Pronouns, Guild and planned starting rank and whether you want your character to be considered for a leadership position.
Please feel free to provide additional backstory or roleplaying information you consider relevant. Please send these character submission emails to both Lydia and Charlotte’s emails.
History of the Sharde Isles:
The Shard Isles were formed during a period of seismic instability at the time of the break-up of the Hassani Empire. Since the Islands are positioned off the coast with sheltered bays and more than adequate supplies of forage and timber, they have become a haven of pirates and other villains.
Each island has a strange mixture of environments not consistent with local weather patterns. Some scholars suggest that whatever magic it was that broke the Shard Islands from the mainland is still at work.
Of note is that twenty years ago, a treasure ship sunk off the coast of one of these islands. One objective of granting the Talion Charter is the Kingdom’s hope of recovering the treasure ship and the cargo it carried.
